Welcome to the updated Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians Membership Services brochure. This handout offers an overview of services available to Sault Tribe members, residing both inside and outside the service area.
There are over 50,000 enrolled tribal members, many of whom live in the tribe’s seven-county service area spanning the Eastern Upper Peninsula. The tribe has landholdings, businesses, housing and health clinics throughout its service area. It provides membership services through the revenue generated by its businesses, grant funding, federal self-governance funds and other sources such as third-party insurance revenue.
Services include social services and victim services; Anishinaabemowin (speaking Ojibwe) language lessons, cultural events and facilities; Elder services; health services including medical, pharmacy, behavioral health, community health, traditional medicine and others; home ownership and rentals; treaty fishing, hunting and gathering conservation regulation, enhancement and management; child care and Head Start; after-school youth programming; and recreational opportunities across the tribe’s service area, among many others.
Published by Sault Tribe’s Communications Dept., this booklet provides an overview of Sault Tribe, an overview of services and contacts for each tribal service division, and a map of Indian Health Services serving members of federally recognized tribes with links throughout the United States. Please call the tribe’s main line, 906‑635‑6050, or see the tribe’s website at www.saulttribe.com, for more information.
