SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. —In response to wage inflation during the COVID-19 global pandemic and tribally declared emergency, the Sault Tribe Board of Directors voted at its Aug. 3, 2021, meeting to provide every team member under the Sault Tribe organization umbrella an increase of $3 per hour.

The $3 per hour measure will be retroactive to July 4 and last through Oct. 2. “This is a temporary measure,” Sault Tribe Executive Director Christine McPherson said. “The Sault Tribe Board of Directors will review and implement a compensation study this fall.”

The across-the-board raise will cost the tribe roughly $3 million—$2 million for the governmental and EDC team members, and $1 million for the casino team members.
