2021 Summer Recreation Program cancelation

Dear Families,
We regret to inform you that the 2021 Summer Recreation Program will be cancelled this year. The health and well-being of your children is our top priority and has guided our decision-making process. This decision was difficult for us as we have taken great pride in our ability to provide such a great opportunity infused with learning and fun for our community children. Based on CDC guidelines and staffing levels, we identified that group sizes would be severely limited and the types of available programming would be limited in size, scope and location. At this time, we know that we would not be able to offer the quality of program that we have offered the past 24 years.

We understand that this news is difficult for families who depend and rely upon this programing to provide safe summer opportunities while schools are on Summer Break. We want our families to know that while we pause for the 2021 Summer season, we remain committed to creating a new opportunity in 2022 when we anticipate that the COVID spread will be better controlled.

We will miss your children and wish everyone health and wellness during these challenging times.

2021 Summer Recreation Program cancelation

Junior Police Academy cancelation notice
Sault Tribe Law Enforcement (STLE) made the tough decision to cancel the 2021 Junior Police Academy. This decision was not made lightly, but because this is a very interactive and physically active academy and STLE relies on other community agencies to help make it successful, with the continuing COVID-19 health emergency, we feel it is in the best interest of our staff, volunteers and the youth we serve to cancel this year’s event. Sault Tribe Law Enforcement’s top priority is the health and safety of its staff, the kids who attend and the communities we serve.

Sault Tribe Law Enforcement hopes to see everyone in 2022! Stay safe everyone!

Robert Marchand
Chief of Police

2021 Ziigwan Manidokewin (Spring Ceremony)
Aaniin/Boozhoo (Hello) from everyone in the Language and Culture Department. Spring is here and it is time for us all to give thanks and hold Ceremonies for new beginnings, new plant life and to honor our Ancestors and loved ones who came before us.

Due to the rise in Covid-19 cases, we are not able to hold the Spring Ceremony as an in person gathering for our community. However, we encourage everyone to make your own offerings of tobacco, berries, meat, fish, or rice and put them out near a tree or in a large body of water.

For more information, please feel free to contact us here at the Sault Tribe Language and Culture Department by phone at 906‑635‑6050 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

MidJim stores now requiring masks
The MidJim Convenience Stores value each and every one of our customers. We have made the decision to require customers to wear face coverings at this time, and have instructed our staff to not provide service to anyone not wearing one. We will have a limited amount of masks to give out to our customers. This is not meant to disrespect any of our customers, nor to impose directives without cause…it is simply our decision to address a very sensitive, unique challenge. Please do not direct your frustrations to our staff, they are simply following directives. We all can be together in hoping for this challenge to quickly pass and giving our staff the opportunity to see each of your smiling faces in the near future!! Thank you.
