unofficial results 2018SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. —The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians 2018 Election unofficial results are in following counting of the ballots June 28. All incumbents kept their seats in this election. Kimberle Gravelle and DJ Hoffman return to Unit I, Catherine Hollowell to Unit II, Keith Massaway to Unit III and Denise Chase to Unit IV. In Unit V, where Anita Nelson chose not to run again, newcomer Charles Matson Jr. won with 271 votes, edging out his competition, Tyler LaPlaunt, by 35 votes.

The deadline for contests relating to the vote is July 2. After that the results will be certified and new board members will be inducted in an inauguration ceremony scheduled for 5 p.m. on July 9 at the Sault Kewadin Casino.
