Notice of Lottery
Pursuant to Tribal Code Chapter 20.102(15) the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians is conducting a lottery to issue two (2) available Commercial Captain Licenses. An application is attached to this notice. Tribal Code states that this notice shall be posted for 60 days.
The following restrictions will apply to the two (2) licenses available in this lottery:
1. These licenses shall be restricted to Lake Superior.
2. They shall be restricted to Marquette (Unit 5) and Munising (Unit 5).
3. These restrictions will be reviewed annually and may be modified at that annual review.
The timetable for the lottery is as follows: (All deadlines are 5 p.m. EST).
March 13: Posting of Lottery Notice.
April 28: Deadline to submit application to tribal law enforcement.
May 12: Lottery is held and winners are contacted.
