Rendezvous at the Straits Powwow Aug. 22‑24
Aug. 22‑24—Rendezvous at the Straits Powwow and Indigenous Art Show is Aug. 22‑24 at the Little Bear East and Museum of Ojibwa Culture, Marquette St. and Ojibwa Trail, St. Ignace. The Rendezvous is open to the public. Admission by donation. Blessing of the Grounds Friday, Aug. 22, 1 p.m. Grand Entry Saturday, Aug. 24 and Sunday, Aug. 24, 12 p.m. This traditional Native American powwow features traditional dancing, Native flute music, drumming and hoop dancing. Enjoy vendor demonstrations, authentic, handmade arts and crafts and traditional Native American food. This family event is alcohol- and drug-free. It is sponsored by the St. Ignace Events Committee, the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, and Kewadin Casinos. In addition to the powwow, there is also an Indigenous art show, featuring unique and culturally significant pieces from local Indigenous artists and artists from abroad.
